John has been in restaurants and catering for 21 years.
He apprenticed as a chef with ‘Iron Chef’ Neil Perry,
‘Iron Chef’ Guillame Brahimi, and Chef Liam Tomlin and
in his mid twenties founded Chow for Now location
catering in Sydney which went on to be voted in the top
three television location catering companies in the
world by Campaign magazine in London.
John started L’amour Kosher Catering in 2010 and
L’amour has been nominated Best New Caterer – Sydney
Metro Savour Awards Restaurant and Catering NSW 2010.
John believes that food should follow the seasons,
and that produce quality is paramount, and also that
tradition is the foundation of all good cooking. He is a
food purist at heart and lists some of his favourite
cookbooks by Claudia Roden and Elizabeth David as they
‘write with such a distinct respect for culture, food
history and tradition’.
When it comes to catering John believes that ‘food
should also have a sense of theatre, and impact. A chef
like Heston Blumenthal is so inspirational in that he
not only comes up with exciting ideas but he is so
resourceful and brings his ideas to life’.
John is excited about the future of Kosher food and
catering in Australia and actively sources and
encourages kosher certification of products.
As the owner of L’amour catering John is rarely
bereft of amour. He is passionate about food, his wife
and three young children, his friends, boxing, golf and
surfing.
